NATO’s decision to suspend its training mission in Iraq does not apply to Estonian troops there, as the Estonian training team is there as part of another mission.

The US-led six-member Estonian training team is currently operating in Iraq as part of Operation Inherent Resolve against Islamic State.

“Our training team is located on al-Assad, who is on the side of the page and is calm there now.. One soldier is on leave in Estonia, ”Susan Lillevyali, spokeswoman for the Estonian Ministry of Defense, told Postimees..

As part of the NATO NMI (NATO Mission Iraq) training mission, no Estonian troops are currently in Iraq.

NATO spokeswoman Dylan White said today that the alliance has suspended a training mission in Iraq. The decision was made the day after the assassination of the general of the revolutionary guard.

The NATO training mission in Iraq acts at the request of the government of that state in order to train the security forces of that state to prevent the return of the Islamic Republic extremist group.

The mission, which includes 500 NATO troops in Iraq, is led by Canada.

Some 5,000 US troops are also separately located in Iraq.
