Estonian Parliament Speaker Henn Polluaas reminded Russia that the Tartu Peace Treaty concluded between the republic and the USSR is still in force. This was stated by the politician in his New Year address..

According to Polluaas, February 2 marks 100 years since the signing of the contract. He recalled that after signing the relevant document, the Estonian-Russian border was established.

The parliamentarian noted that after the restoration of independence, “all countries” recognized Estonia as the successor of the 1918 state “in all manifestations, including the state border”.

Polluaas stated that the Tartu Peace Treaty is still valid and is currently in the registry of existing UN international treaties.

Tartu Peace Treaty concluded between the RSFSR and Estonia in 1920. According to the document, Estonia received lands that are now part of the Pskov and Leningrad regions. These territories moved to Russia after the capture of the republic by the Soviet Union. Tallinn insists on the return of land, and Moscow believes that the Tartu Peace Treaty has lost its force.
