The Commission is the central executive body with special status, the activities are directed and coordinated by the Cabinet of Ministers through the Minister of Education and Science. The task of the commission is to preserve and develop the state language through the establishment of standards and methods for checking the level of language proficiency required to acquire Ukrainian citizenship or to occupy positions defined by laws.

Recall that in the summer of 2019, a new language law came into force in Ukraine, which introduces certification of the level of Ukrainian language proficiency by government officials..
