Saudi Foreign Minister Adel al-Jubeir said that Riyadh would look for other sources of weapons if its allies did not supply it, reports Al-Sharq al-Ausat.

Earlier, German Chancellor Angela Merkel said that Germany is stopping arms shipments to Saudi Arabia, while the murder of Saudi journalist Jamal Hashukji has not been fully investigated, "and in this connection with the still-unfinished investigation I can say that there are no arms shipments to Saudi Arabia".

"The Kingdom is obliged to protect its territory, borders and people from any regional threats, we always prefer that our weapons be from the Allied states, as this is considered part of the system of strategic relations with them. But the need of the kingdom to protect its territory and its people obliges it to get the weapons it needs from any source, "the minister said in an interview with Al-Sharq al-Ausat.

Earlier, European parliamentarians drafted a resolution in which they reiterated the call on EU countries to urgently impose an arms embargo on Saudi Arabia and extend it to all members of the Saudi coalition in Yemen..

Hashukji, who worked as a columnist for the Washington Post American newspaper and lived in the United States in 2017, disappeared in Turkey on October 2 after entering the building of the Saudi Consulate General in Istanbul. On the night of October 20, state media of Saudi Arabia spread the message of the country's Prosecutor General that, according to preliminary data, Khashukji was dead, a quarrel with the consulate’s staff resulted in his death. The Istanbul Prosecutor’s Office stated that the killing of Hashukji was deliberate, the body of the journalist was dismembered and destroyed after he was strangled in the consulate general.

According to a popular statement by the Attorney General’s Office of Saudi Arabia, 21 people have been detained in the case of the killing of Hashukji. For the five direct participants in the murder, the prosecutor's office demanded the death penalty, the rest will be punished according to the canons of Sharia.

The military-political conflict in Yemen between the government and the Hussite rebels from the Shiite Ansar Alla movement has been going on since 2014. Arab military coalition led by Saudi Arabia has supported government forces since March 2015.
