Republican Dana Rohrabacher, who has served 15 terms in the House of Representatives, was defeated in the recent US midterm elections and will leave Congress. He is "a vivid personification of the moral corruption that has penetrated into the part of the foreign policy establishment of the Republican Party - the part that has long ceased to take care of the US leadership in a democratic world," argues The Washington Post columnist Annebabaum.

"For a long time in the past 10 years, he served as the voice of foreign autocrats in Congress. Podzuzhivaemy Natalia Veselnitskoy (Russian lawyer, who met with Paul Manafort, Donald Trump-ml. and Jared Kushner and offered them "incriminating information" on Hillary Clinton), Rohrabacher fought, for example, against the "Magnitsky Law" and its successor to the "Global Magnitsky Law", which imposes individual sanctions on violators of human rights and kleptocrats from Russia and others countries.

Once he agreed in Congress about the screening of the notorious Russian propaganda film denigrating "Magnitsky Law" and its main supporter Bill Browder. When Royce, the chairman of the Foreign Affairs Committee of the House of Representatives, banned it, Rohrbacher’s office began to advertise the screening of the film in the Newseum, "the article says.

The article also mentions Rohrabacher’s contacts with Faraj, the former leader of the British party UKIP (“she has her curious connections with Moscow,” says the columnist), lobbyists of the Hungarian Fidesh and Marine Le Pen (whose “presidential campaign received funding from Russia” - says the author).

The newspaper advises the new composition of the US House of Representatives "to study the role that lobbyists of authoritarian politicians played in Congress, especially in influencing Rohrabacher and his committee".

The author believes that among the newly elected Democratic Congressmen there will be an excellent substitute for Rohrabacher in the Foreign Affairs Committee.. "When the Reagan and McCain party renounces its former international role, we need democrats with real foreign policy experience to ensure that Congress continues to serve America’s interests, not its enemies," concludes Applebaum.
