After the promulgation of the decision of the Synod of the Ecumenical Patriarchate on the restoration of canonical territory in Ukraine and the removal of anathema from the Ukrainian church hierarchs, the Chairman of the Synodal Information and Education Department of the UOC (Moscow Patriarchate) Archbishop Clement (Supper) said that an anathema should be imposed on the Ecumenical Patriarch Varfolomey.
It’s hard to say what’s more of a church propagandist in this statement - pride, ignorance, praise. A spokesman for a church that does not exist, in fact, the UOC (MP) is not a church at all, but only an autonomous part of another church — a Russian one — from a property point of view — suggests anathema to the Ecumenical Patriarch! But in the Orthodox world there is no institution capable of making such a decision - with the exception, of course, of the Synod of the Constantinople Patriarchate.. At the same time, all the decisions that Archbishop Clement (the Supper) did not like so much were made by this Synod!.
It’s absolutely impossible to understand the irritation of Russian churchmen in Ukraine, the Moscow Patriarchate itself and politicians in the Kremlin - unless, of course, you think about politics. In Moscow, they could condemn the decision on granting autocephaly to the Ukrainian Church - but then, when this decision will be. In the meantime, the Synod of the Constantinople Patriarchate returned to the fold of canonical Orthodoxy millions of people who were with this canonical Orthodoxy in schism. What should a real believer feel who cares about the salvation of his brothers in faith, about the faithfulness of their sacraments? Joy. How do they feel in Moscow and in the UOC (MP)? Irritation. Should the present Orthodox be worried that overcoming the schism in world Orthodoxy comes not from one of the local Orthodox churches — the Russian, but from the Universal Church — the mother church for both Ukraine and Moscow? No no.
But the Kremlin, the Russian Orthodox Church and the hierarchs of the UOC-MP are not only outraged - they threaten a split in Orthodoxy. So why?.
And because they seem to be interested exclusively in political control over Ukraine and its citizens with the help of any tools, including church. And when one of these control tools becomes unusable, its real owners begin to resent and threaten from all television screens..
Thanks to the wise decision of the Synod of Constantinople Patriarchate, we have witnessed a real session of Russian self-exposure..
