For the first time since the return of gubernatorial elections to the Russian Federation in two regions, the current governors lost the elections. In the Khabarovsk Territory and the Vladimir region in the gubernatorial elections on September 23, the victory was won by candidates from the LDPR, running as spoilers.

Earlier, this happened only once: in 2015, the Communist Sergei Levchenko won the election of the governor of the Irkutsk region. He also defeated the incumbent governor of United Russia in the second round.

Elections of governors were held on September 9 in 22 regions of Russia. In four of them, the incumbent governors, supported by President Vladimir Putin and the United Russia party in the election, failed to win in the first round.

The second round of elections in Primorye that took place on September 16 passed with a large number of violations and was declared invalid. In Khakassia, the incumbent governor Viktor Zimin withdrew from the elections the day before the second round. In these regions, representatives of the Communist Party of the Russian Federation.

In the Vladimir region, United Russia lost the election to Svetlana Orlova, who ruled the region in 2013. Despite the fact that before the second round to help Orlova win came the head of the internal policy of the Kremlin, Andrei Yarin, after processing 100% of the protocols, she received 37.46% of the vote. The counting was broadcast on the CEC website.

Its competitor Vladimir Sipyagin scored 57.03%. At 3 o'clock in the morning he made a short statement in which he said that he would give a "detailed" press conference on Monday at 14:00 and answer any "even the most acute questions", but for the time being he asked "not to ask questions".

In Khabarovsk Krai, the United Russia governor, United Russia Vyacheslav Shport lost to the State Duma deputy from the LDPR Sergey Furgal with a huge margin. Shport gained 27.97%, and Furgal - 69.57% of the vote.

In the first round, both candidates scored slightly more than 35% of the vote, with Furgal ahead of Shport for tenths of a percent.

After that, the acting head of the region offered his rival to become his first deputy. Furgal accepted the proposal, but did not withdraw from the elections. However, having won the elections, he said that Shport did not accept any proposal, and the results of the voting are considered natural, since the residents want change.
