International mechanisms of influence, including sanctions against Russia, should be strengthened until Moscow stops aggression against neighboring countries and its attempts to undermine international law and the world order.

This was stated on Monday by Ukraine's interim Ukrainian attorney Yury Vitrenko during events dedicated to the 10th anniversary of the beginning of the Russian-Georgian war, Ukrinform reports..

"The international community should combine diplomatic tools with much more powerful targeted sanctions, as well as the isolation of Russian political leaders and oligarchs. In the end, we all know that Russia understands only the language of power, "said the representative of Ukraine.

He also called on the UN "to be more active" in resolving the conflicts initiated by Russia in Georgia, Ukraine, Moldova and other places.

"Despite the existence of appropriate mechanisms, such as the Geneva international discussions, the Norman format or the Tripartite Contact Group, the UN Security Council and the General Assembly should demonstrate a much stronger position on conflicts and increase pressure on Russia," the Ukrainian diplomat stressed. he said, there should be a consistent and consolidated policy of the international community regarding Russian occupation and annexation to ensure a peaceful solution to the conflict ktov in the region and the world.

"The first step should be the de-occupation of the Georgian and Ukrainian territories, the abolition of recognition of the so-called independence of Abkhazia and South Ossetia and the fulfillment of all other obligations under the existing agreements," said the representative of the Ukrainian Mission to the United Nations.

He also stressed that Russia, as an occupying state, has obligations under international law to the population of the Crimea, Donbass, Abkhazia and South Ossetia.

"She is fully responsible for the consequences of her internationally wrongful acts and will pay in full for the harm she caused," the representative of the Mission of Ukraine to the United Nations.
