10,000 border guards will be sent to the external borders of the European Union to combat the migration crisis. The head of the European Commission Jean-Claude Juncker said on Tuesday, July 3, during a speech in the European Parliament, notes DW.
"This is an important decision of the European Council. Initially, it was thought that it was necessary to do this before 2027. Now we are talking about 2020, "- said Juncker. According to the head of the European Commission, it is required to expand the rights of border guards. They "should be able to operate in third countries, but always taking into account the consent of these countries," believes Juncker.
Possible establishment of centers for the reception of refugees in North Africa must be discussed together with the relevant states, the head of the European Commission. Previously, the EU countries agreed to allocate from the European Development Fund at least 500 million euros in a trust fund for Africa.
On 28-29 June, during the Brussels summit, the EU countries agreed on a number of measures to limit the influx of refugees - in particular, the expansion of powers and the enlargement of the Frontex EU border guard service, the opening of refugee camps in North Africa and the possibility of creating closed camps for migrants in the European Union whose applications about asylum are pending. In addition, Spain and Greece expressed their willingness to receive refugees back if German law enforcement officers on the border with Austria establish that their data has already been entered into the common base of the EURODAC.
