Trap for the ultra-right

The first thing that caught my eye after moving to Kiev was its homogeneity. Life in the Crimea accustomed to different sections of the eyes. To different cheekbones and phenotypes. To different names, in the end. At school, you were sitting at the same desk with Dilyaver. At university I studied with Emine and Server. Worked with Osman and Mustafa, - wrote Pavel Kazarin in the column on "Crimea. Realities ".

And Kiev was distinguished by its uniformity. You can, of course, go to the Troeschyna market and find Vietnamese. Or look at Tatarka - and discover the mosque. But this otherness had to be looked for - it is not given in the everyday sensations of the streets.

All this homogeneity became possible only because of our poverty. Labor migrants did not go to Ukraine only because neighboring capitals gave more opportunities. As a result, the Ukrainian reality remained virginly homogeneous.

As soon as Ukraine begins to grow rich - everything will change.

As soon as there is a demand for workers, labor migration begins. As soon as salaries start to grow - people will start coming here. And it will be carriers of other traditions. Other denominations. Other habits. Other appearance.

They will settle nearby. Save on life. Saving and sending money home. They will be strikingly distinguished from the usual socio-ethnic landscape. Blur uniformity.

They will pray to other gods. Celebrate your own holidays. Observe other traditions. They will not look like us, and we will not be like them.

Among them, too, will come across criminals. Alcoholics. Drug addicts. And every editor of the news tape will be tempted to register the nationality of the policemen.

The richer the country becomes, the more such people will be on the streets of Ukrainian cities. This is the simple logic of labor migration. Within the framework of which the Ukrainians themselves are going to storm jobs in Poland or the Czech Republic. Just in their place in Ukraine will come neighbors from poorer countries.

Do they understand the ultra-right?.

Do they understand that our homogeneity is a consequence of our poverty? That economic growth will inevitably lead to labor migration? What the richer we become - the more accents will sound on our streets.

The dream of the Slavic sea from Donetsk to Uzhgorod is a dream of poverty.

The very thing that makes the migration vector unilateral. Any economic growth will create in Ukraine labor diasporas.

Want homogeneity - be prepared to be poor. Want uniformity - do not demand prosperity. Dream of homogeneity - keep in mind that it comes complete with vegetation.

And do not come up with easy solutions. They do not work.
