European Commission President Jean-Claude Juncker and European Council President Donald Tusk opposed the return of Russia to the G-7. They announced this in Canadian Quebec before the G7 summit, writes liga. net.

Tusk noted that the proposal of US President Donald Trump on the return of the Russian Federation to the G7 surprised him. The head of the European Council said that it would be difficult to find a new format for such meetings with Russia.

Junker, in turn, noted that Russia is violating international law, pointing to the annexation of the Crimea and the events in Donbass.

In addition, the representative of the Minister for Foreign Affairs of Canada, Adam Osten, said that Ottawa would be against the return of Russia to the G-7, while Moscow is occupying the Ukrainian Crimea.

Previously, Trump called for the restoration of the G8 format and the return of Russia to it. The US President spoke in favor of involving the Russian Federation in the negotiations and expanding the format to the G8 already at the summit in Quebec, which will be held in June 2018. In response, Dmitry Peskov said that Russia "focuses on other formats".
