The head of the US State Department, Mike Pompeo, said: "We must continue to make efforts against Nord Stream-2, so that it will not be realized. We can not allow the EU to be highly dependent on Russian energy resources ". And the countries of Europe themselves are allegedly very limited in their ability to oppose the Russian Federation, since they depend on Russian gas.

During the discussion of the US budget for the next financial year, the head of the State Department said that the US will continue to take steps against the construction of the Nord Stream gas pipeline. In addition, options are provided for the delivery of energy resources through the Caucasus and other countries.

"Nord Stream-2" will be laid from the coast of Russia along the bottom of the Baltic Sea to Germany. Its capacity will be approximately 55 billion cubic meters per year. Against the implementation of the project is, of course, Ukraine, which will lose considerable revenues from gas transit and the opportunity to steal. And why such a touching US concern about the energy independence of the countries of Europe? Care here generally nothing. Here, care only about their economy - you need to attach your own gas and link all of Europe with treaties. So while the US wants to simply ban Europe from building a gas pipeline. But the trouble is that in Europe too they can count money. Liquefied gas from overseas will cost 30% more expensive, and this is an unacceptable luxury. And the very scheme of supply by sea is less reliable than with the help of a gas pipeline. At the same time, it is necessary to build infrastructure (again costs), which can no longer be used.

While euro-countries refused to switch to liquefied gas from overseas. The US embassy in the United States assessed all attempts by the United States: "Geopolitics again interferes in the most frank way in the economy, discredits the slogans about diversification of supplies".

German economics minister Peter Altmeier characterized the problem best - the desire of US President Donald Trump to ban the construction of a gas pipeline to increase his own gas exports will not have an effect.
