The United States assessed the consequences of a possible nuclear strike by Russia. The worst scenario was suggested by Georgetown University professor Matthew Kroenig in his book "The Logic of American Strategy: Why Strategic Excellence is Important". This is written by the American edition of The National Interest in the article "Why America needs tons of nuclear weapons".
According to the scientist, if Russia attacks the United States on the nuclear strike, 131 cities will be destroyed during the first attack, 70 million people will die. This is despite the fact that Russian troops will have to repel US attempts to strike back. If Washington liquidates its arsenal of intercontinental ballistic missiles, the US losses will increase to 82 million dead in the first massive nuclear attack from Russia.
In this connection, the professor concludes that the US needs to preserve its nuclear arsenal.
If the US nuclear arsenal is more powerful, then the US losses in a potential nuclear war will be less than that of their opponents, I am sure Matthew Kroenig.
In early May, it became known that the US Air Force conducted 26 flight, engineering and debugging tests of the 12th modification of the B61 nuclear bomb ("gravitational"). By 2020, the first batch of B61-12 will be used by the US. Bombs will also be placed on US military bases in Europe: in Italy, Turkey, Germany, the Netherlands and Belgium.
