Russian Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Maria Zakharova accused the British special services of involvement in the murder of Grigory Rasputin in 1916, the radio station Echo of Moscow.

In addition, according to Zakharova, London is involved in the death of Russian Emperor Paul I and the political leader of the Congo, Patrice Lumumba. Zakharova called Britain "the world record holder of genocide". According to her estimates, the British destroyed 95% of Australian aborigines during colonization.

Zakharova noted that she made these statements in response to accusations by the British authorities of Russia's involvement in contract killings abroad. London believes that the attack on the former GRU agent Sergei Skripal and his daughter in the British city of Salisbury on March 4 is exactly Russia. According to the investigation, the Violins were poisoned with the nerve agent "Novice", produced in the Russian territory.

Russia denies all accusations. Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov said that during the attack, another substance was used - the chemical BZ, which was developed by the United States and Great Britain. Lavrov referred to the conclusions of the chemical laboratory in the Swiss city of Spiez, but in the laboratory itself the minister's statement was not confirmed. Later, the findings of the Russian authorities were refuted by the experts of the Organization for the Prohibition of Chemical Weapons.
