The former president of Catalonia Carles Puchondemont was detained today by the German police when crossing the border with Denmark five months after escaping from Spain. Recall that last Friday a judge of the Supreme Court of Spain Pablo Ljarena activated the European warrant for his arrest. Puchdemont was at that time in Finland, from where he was heading back to Belgium today. Now the ex-head of the Generalitat is in the prison of Neumunster.

Puchdemont was arrested on the A7 motorway in the Shuby community around 11. 19 local time. Prior to this, the secret services of Spain notified the German authorities that the wanted Catalan politician may be on the territory of Germany.

Puchdemont's lawyer Jaume Alonso-Cuevillas reports that he was on his way to Belgium to stand trial in this country. He also adds that the attitude of the German police towards his client is correct.

There is no information as to whether Puchondon was alone during the detention, or he was accompanied by one of the politicians who fled with him.

The Spanish prosecutor's office is currently preparing a request for the extradition of the former President of the Generalitat.
