As the former deputy of the State Duma Ilya Ponomarev wrote on the Observer, it will be a boring spectacle.

"If we talk about demand from the public, then the closest image that Russians need is Grudinin. People want a business executive, aged, but not old. Reliable, calm, who, above all, cared about people, and who in his business would be oriented not to the West, but to domestic production. This is the image that Russians would support with the greatest desire. Grudinin is the master, Stalin-light (it's no accident that he played this card in the course of the elections), but at the same time he's a bit of a gentleman, a la Nikita Mikhalkov, and very much in this story fits, "he writes.

In his opinion, Putin became too aggressive for Russians.

"It's according to public opinion polls that his aggression is already a minus, not a plus. Yes, for a short time the Russians with a sigh and clenched teeth are consolidated, but on the whole all of this military rhetoric begins to be frightening, "said the former State Duma deputy.

He also notes that Putin is unlikely to look for a successor, such as Grudinin.

"I think his request for a man more than his warehouse, a 40-year-old unscrupulous technocrat, without certain political views, very loyal and reliable in his personal plan. It can be a person, both with a power past, and with an economic. Putin will consider both those and those. He, of course, loves the siloviki, but he knows that the siloviki in Russia are very weak in the state administration, plus are psychologically dependent on their superiors. And in public policy, he still needs a man who can keep the situation as a public leader, "- writes Ponomarev.
