Russia and China on Monday, March 19, blocked the holding of a meeting of the UN Security Council on the observance of human rights in Syria.

"We see no reason to hold this event, since human rights are not the responsibility of the Security Council. For this purpose, the Human Rights Council works in Geneva, "- said Deputy Permanent Representative of the Russian Federation Gennady Kuzmin.

The meeting, which was expected by the United Nations High Commissioner for Human Rights Zeid Ra'ad al-Hussein, was attempted to initiate by France and six other Security Council members.

"The Security Council must have all the necessary information to understand the crisis that it oversees, including the human rights situation," said France's permanent representative to the UN, Francois Delattre.

Meanwhile, according to the information of the Syrian Supervisory Board for Human Rights (SOHR), on the eve of the death in East Guta - a rebel-controlled suburb of Damascus - from air raids of Syrian aircraft killed 15 children. They hid in the school cellar.

The same organization reported that during the offensive by the Syrian government troops to East Gutu, which began in mid-February this year, more than a thousand civilians were killed there, including at least 215 children.

Since 2013, almost 400 thousand East Hutu residents are in a state of siege, without access to food, drinking water, medicine and electricity. In mid-February 2018, the army of Syrian President Bashar Assad began bombarding the positions of insurgents in the region.
