One of the most active among the American establishment supporters of the introduction of anti-Russian sanctions, influential Republican John McCain may soon leave the post of US senator, who he has been in the upper house of the US Congress for more than 30 years.
Such information with reference to sources was published by the portal True Pundit, informs UNN.
"At the moment, we proceed from the fact that McCain is completing the work in the Senate," - says one of the interlocutors of the resource in Congress. The Republican Party has allegedly already begun searching for a candidate to nominate a new senator from Arizona, the state that is now represented in the upper house by McCain.
At the moment, 81-year-old McCain heads the Senate Committee on Armed Services. However, because of the fight against cancer, since the end of December last year, he practically does not take part in the work of the Chamber.
It was McCain, in December 2017, who urged President Donald Trump to allow additional sales of defensive lethal weapons to Ukraine, including anti-tank munitions.
John McCain has repeatedly criticized not only the leadership of Russia, but also the United States. In November 2017, he accused American leader Donald Trump of being too gullible with regard to the incumbent Russian President Vladimir Putin.
