I will say more: these elections were a continuation of the process of dying of Europe. For Ukraine, this is of great importance. Since in such a situation our state should already change and reorganize its foreign policy, the former representative of Ukraine in the Tripartite contact group in Minsk, the former Ukrainian ambassador to Belarus Roman Bessmertny writes in Facebook..
It is obvious that today there was such a phenomenon as Europe Europe. The first is Europe of coal and steel, which includes Germany, France. The second is Europe Scandinavian, oriented to Great Britain (which is in the process of Brexit). The third is an olive Europe, to which you can include Greece, Italy, Spain. And the fourth - Central Europe, I would call it young. There are young democratic states that emerged after the collapse of the Soviet Union, including Ukraine.
In this complex modern format, we need to build our foreign policy on the European continent. I see two basic principles on which this new policy should be based:.
Ukraine should be equidistant from all Europe. Tentatively by the principle of Great Britain. By the way, it is no coincidence that in recent years our state in dialogue with the European Union has been compared to Britain.
Ukraine needs to initiate a joint dialogue throughout the Central Region. The system of bilateral cooperation will no longer be effective. If our state takes a course toward rapprochement, for example, with Poland, then there will be problems with the same Lithuania. No matter which country we take separately - Romania, Hungary, Slovakia - we will necessarily get into a contradiction. Therefore, Ukraine should initiate a serious dialogue throughout the region in order to find common answers to questions of security, economic, humanitarian.
Elections in Italy, and even earlier elections in Greece, Czech Republic, Germany showed that Europe is leaving the reels.
Nationalist, right-wing radical movements are gaining momentum. Unfortunately, Europe did not learn the lessons of the war between Ukraine and Russia. The situation on the European continent will worsen, the confrontation will last.
So we must also think about how to build a policy inside our home. Going to European values, we have to face the wave of populism and right radicalism. And, in my opinion, there can be only one recipe here: a healthy modern conservatism and a Christian idea.
