In the European Commission there are doubts about the expediency of building a fence on the Polish border with Belarus and Ukraine as a way to combat African swine fever.

This is reported by RMF FM with reference to its own sources in Brussels.

Minister of Agriculture of Poland Krzysztof Jurgel informed Brussels that the draft law on the fence on the eastern border of Poland is at the final stage, and the cost of construction will be about 150 million zl.

The length of the fence should be more than 700 km, and the minister partly would like to cover the cost from EU funds. However, the European Commission does not see this possibility.

"The meaning of the structure is this: the idea of ??fencing along the border between states looks questionable, given the ratio of construction costs and the benefits of the fence," the European Commission.

"We need scientific evidence of the effectiveness of such fencing in preventing the spread of the virus," added one of the representatives of the European Commission.

Earlier it was reported that Poland plans to build a fence along the border with Belarus and Ukraine to prevent the migration of wild boars and the spread of the African swine fever virus.

Krzysztof Jurgel previously insisted that the European Commission's consent to this project is not needed, since it is a question of the state border and its security.
