Russian President Vladimir Putin said that he spoke on the phone with his American counterpart Donald Trump, RIA Novosti reports..

"I just had a phone conversation with the President of the United States of America, Mr. Trump," Putin said at a meeting with Palestinian leader Mahmoud Abbas.

"Of course, we also talked about the Palestinian-Israeli settlement," he said..

At the end of 2017, Trump signed a decree recognizing Jerusalem as the capital of Israel and transferring the American embassy there. This caused protests and unrest in Palestine and other Arab countries.

Israel calls the city its "single and indivisible" capital, including its eastern districts and historic center, repulsed half a century ago from Jordan and later annexed. The world, with which the US was united until December, does not recognize annexation and considers the status of the city to be one of the core problems of the Middle East conflict.
