The Secretary-General is following with alarm the escalation of tension in Syria and the threat of involvement of other states in the conflict. This was announced on Sunday, February 11, by the UN press service.

According to the Organization, Guterres made this statement after the active escalation of the conflict began on the Israeli-Syrian border. At the same time, he urged all parties to stop escalating and show restraint.

The UN head also expressed confidence in the need to move to a political solution in accordance with Security Council resolution 2254, noting that this is the only way to "put an end to the violence and terrible suffering of the Syrian people.

Recall, as reported URA-Inform, in early February, during the military confrontation between the troops of the government and the coalition, more than a thousand civilians were killed. At the same time, according to the UN, during military operations, shells of enormous permissive power are used, which are probably prohibited by the Geneva Conventions.
