Russia shares the task of building a nuclear-free world, but it is necessary to achieve this goal "not by such unilateral methods" on which the treaty is based. Such an opinion was expressed on Friday morning, January 19, at a meeting of the United Nations Security Council on issues related to the banning of nuclear weapons by Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov.
He also explained that it is possible to completely destroy nuclear weapons only with complete disarmament in the conditions of ensuring equal and indivisible security for all, including for the holders of nuclear weapons. However, in the view of the Russian minister, the provisions of the UDWM do not comply with these principles, since it ignores the need to take into account all factors that affect strategic stability today.
At the same time, Lavrov noted that the treaty provokes deep disagreements among members of the international community and could have a destabilizing effect on the non-proliferation regime.
Recall, as reported URA-Inform, earlier Lavrov said that the Russian Federation allows the only function of the mission of the United Nations in the east of Ukraine - is to ensure the security of the OSCE representatives. Our proposal is very clear: the peacekeepers will only guard the OSCE special mission and only if the observers fulfill the functions resulting from the Minsk accords. Any other mission of the peacekeeping mission will mean the removal of these agreements.
