Ambassadors of African countries at the United Nations condemned US President Donald Trump's comments, calling them "outrageous" and "racist", and demanded that the American leader apologize.

The scandal erupted after the media reported that at a meeting on immigration with senators, Trump called the Third World countries a "gad" (shithole, the version of the transfer is a "smelly hole"). In particular, he allegedly referred to Haiti, El Salvador, a number of African states.

As stated in the statement of the African Union mission, which has observer status with the organization, "the African group of ambassadors to the UN is extremely shocked and severely condemns the outrageous, racist and xenophobic remarks attributed to the US president by the media," and "demands refusal (from these words) and apologies ".

The ambassadors reported that they are concerned about the tendency of the American authorities to show contempt for the African continent. The mission expressed its solidarity with the people of Haiti and others who had experienced such humiliation, and also thanked all Americans who condemned Trump's comments.
