Therefore, in the near future, we should not expect any progress in this matter. Such an opinion on Tuesday, January 9, in an interview with the Internet publication "European Pravda" was made by the permanent representative of Ukraine to the United Nations, Vladimir Yelchenko.

At the same time, the diplomat noted that the Security Council was ready to begin work on the mandate of the peacekeeping operation. He also stressed the invariability of the Ukrainian position that peacekeepers should stand on the state border between Ukraine and Russia.

At the same time, Russia rejects this option, and this is the red line that no one will ever pass, - explained the position of Kiev Yelchenko.

The Ukrainian diplomat also said that Russia initially did not want a UN peacekeeping operation on the territory of the Donbass, since they need either to preserve the situation that is now or the so-called "peacekeeping" operation on Russian conditions that would freeze this conflict for decades.

Recall, as reported URA-Inform, the representative of Ukraine in the subgroup on security of the Tripartite Contact Group Yevhen Marchuk does not yet see the prospect of the introduction in the near future of the peacekeeping contingent of the United Nations to the Donbass. As the politician stated on January 3 in an interview with the journalists of one of the Ukrainian TV channels, he has no hope that he will succeed in the near future to agree on the introduction of a peacekeeping contingent.
