The adopted document provides, inter alia, for replacing the phrase "Moldovan language functioning on the basis of Latin script", as embodied in Article 13 of the Basic Law, with the phrase "Romanian language".

As reported by Deutsche Welle, the relevant document was approved on Wednesday, December 13. According to him in the country's constitution, the state language will be called not "Moldovan" but "Romanian".

In turn, the country's president, Igor Dodon, has categorically opposed this initiative. In his opinion, the "ruling regime" is doing everything possible to split the Moldovan society.

He is sure that such government actions violate the country's constitution.

Recall as reported URA-Inform, the Venice Commission on Monday, December 11, published a decision on the language provisions of the law of Ukraine "On Education". The document, in particular, contains a number of recommendations for Ukraine, but notes that the rights of Hungarians, as well as other minorities can be observed without changing the seventh article of the law, which establishes the language of instruction.
