Even Bismarck said that they never lie as much as after the war and hunting. Who defeated in Syria - Russia or the US - is a matter of propaganda interpretation, writes on the portal of the NW Russian political scientist Dmitry Oreshkin.

For Putin, of course, the international agenda is important - with him now must be considered. And this problem, apparently, he decided for himself. For Trump - this is not less important, and he also states that the United States made a decisive contribution to the victory in Syria. Mrs. Zakharova (Press Secretary of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Russian Federation - Ed.. ), it answers that the American president thus "communicated", or rather, "skapitalizdil" this same victory.

I think that we are talking about the territorial division of virtuality. In Russia, everyone will be sure that Putin won. In the world there will be a more ambivalent point of view. In Syria, there was no territory under IGIL control. But this does not mean that the war is over, it has moved to another phase. First, the conflicts there will continue between Turkey, Iran, Kurds and Assad. Secondly, there will be continued terrorist acts against Russian servicemen. As they say in Russia, Putin became famous for having once introduced and three times withdrawn these same troops. So the war seems to have ended, but the Russian military presence in Syria remains. And this is the main problem, from my point of view.

We used to view the war in terms of 1941-1945-ies. , this is a hot phase, and modern war is in economic terms. How much money is needed to maintain the Russian naval base in Syria? How many people need to be sent there? Can Russia afford it? Now we are told that the creation of this base in Syria is a geopolitical success of Russia. From my point of view, this is a geopolitical failure. Because it is extremely expensive pleasure, but money is not. What we get is also not very clear. At the same time, sooner or later, one of the Russian servicemen will be blown up, or they will be killed, or something else. And the war will continue. Yes, in the propaganda space Putin won, Igil destroyed, the Russian base is, so - we are strong. This creates an illusion of world domination in Putin. But in reality world domination now defines completely different spheres.

In any case, it's very good that IGIL did not have a controlled territory in Syria, because serious terrorist acts could be prepared there. Their support zone is destroyed, but the conflict itself will smolder. Bashar Assad will not be able to control the situation in Syria, so Russia will have to constantly keep its planes there on alert duty there.

But propaganda will say that we won, and the Americans lost.

But Trump does not give a damn what Russians think about the victory in Syria. More concrete steps are important for him, and here he acts very consistently. The fact that Trump is forced to treat Putin more rigidly is a fact. In February 2018, we will see this confirmation. Washington will introduce new, personal sanctions. And this is much more important than the question of who won in Syria.
