These elections are considered historic and today the first phase of elections took place. At the moment, polling stations have already closed.

According to preliminary data, voter turnout is about 65%. As informs DW, the second phase of voting will take place on December, 7th in capital Kathmandu and southern regions of the country.

However, according to the publication, in the northern regions, some voters, despite the cold for several hours, walked on foot to reach the nearest polling stations.

It is expected that 275 mandates in the national parliament and 550 in seven regional parliaments will be distributed between the pro-ruling party "Nepal Congress" and the alliance that unites Marxist-Leninists and Maoists.

Recall, as reported URA-Inform, in 2008 the country ceased to be a monarchy and carried out a constitutional reform, as a result of which a federal system was established.
