The European Union opposes amendments to the law, according to which foreign media can be regarded as "foreign agents". This was announced on Sunday, November 26 in the European External Action Service.
According to the agency, these amendments allow the media to be credited to foreign agents who directly or indirectly receive foreign funding, and this further penalties restricts the main freedoms in Russia and prevents the creation of an independent civil society in the country.
In addition, these amendments are contrary to the state's obligations in the field of human rights, as well as pose an additional threat to free and independent Russian media and access to information, the European Union.
