The press service of the National Security and Defense Council of Ukraine issued today the following statement:.

Considering the spread in some media about the alleged influence of the Secretary of the National Security and Defense Council of Ukraine Oleksandr Turchynov on the appointment of the leadership of the State Bureau of Investigation, we note that these manipulations, not confirmed by any facts aimed at discrediting and humiliating the newly created state body, an instrument of the state in combating crime.

The thesis that all significant events in the country can not take place without the participation of the National Security and Defense Council of Ukraine has become for many axiomatic. However, we emphasize that the Secretary of the National Security and Defense Council of Ukraine never and in no way influenced the decision of the commission that chose the leadership of the GBR, and is not even familiar with the overwhelming majority of its members.

Concerning the applicants for leadership positions in the GDB, Alexander Turchinov, from the time of work in the SBU, is familiar only with the Chief Military Prosecutor Anatoly Matios. As for the other candidates, the NSDC Secretary does not have enough information about them to give estimates or recommendations.

The Secretary of the National Security and Defense Council of Ukraine considers it important to reform the law enforcement system, to create and establish the GDB as a professional and independent institution. To give an assessment to the leaders of a new structure is possible only on the basis of the results of their work.
