A soldier of the Korean People's Army crossed the border with South Korea on Monday at the Panmunjom point. This was reported by the Committee of Chiefs of Staff of the Republic of Korea.
"The defector received gunshot wounds from the North Korean military and in South Korea was taken to the hospital," the report says.. Other details are not given yet.
Panmunjom is in the United Security Zone, where US and South Korean troops are on alert duty. This is the only place on the inter-Korean border, where servicemen of the North and South are in the line of sight several tens of meters apart.
