Tens of thousands of people took to the streets to protest against judicial reform. Demonstrators demand from the ruling coalition to withdraw from the parliament bills on introducing changes in the system of justice.

According to local media, as of Monday morning, the traffic in the center of Bucharest is completely suspended. Demonstrators, and according to preliminary data about 12 thousand people, chant "Down with your hands from justice!", "We do not want to live in the country of thieves and corrupt officials!", "We are representatives of the generation who is obliged to stop legal chaos".

At the same time, the organizers of the protests assured that similar demonstrations will be held in the major cities of the country, such as Timisoara, Arad, Iasi, Sibiu, Constanta and Galati.

Supporters of the former Prime Minister Dacian Ciolos who is the leader of the political movement "Romania-100" joined the protests,.



Recall, according to one of the draft laws submitted by the ruling coalition to the parliament, the Legal Inspectorate, which previously submitted to the Higher Council of the Magistracy, will become subordinate to the Ministry of Justice. It is also planned to discuss a number of bills on mitigating criminal punishment for corruption.

As reported URA-Inform, the President of Romania Klaus Johannis, the European Commission and diplomats have already expressed concern about the proposed legal changes. At the same time, the ruling Social Democratic Party stated that it intends to approve the revision of the judicial legislation by the end of the current parliamentary session.
