The authorities of North Korea officially stated that they successfully conducted a hydrogen bomb test. This is reported by the state-owned media of the DPRK. In the message of the hostel, it is stated that the test was "a significant step" in completing the Pyongyang nuclear weapons program.

Earlier in the day, seismologists in China, South Korea and the US recorded two tremors of magnitude up to 6.3. At the same time, South Korean specialists reported that the recorded explosion was the strongest in the whole history of measurements: it was 9.8 times stronger than during the last nuclear test in September 2016.

On the eve of Pyongyang reported that the leader of the DPRK Kim Jong Un personally inspected a new hydrogen bomb, designed to be installed as a warhead for a controlled intercontinental ballistic missile.

The inspection took place in the building of the Institute of Nuclear Weapons and accompanied by its specialists, as well as a number of officials of the military industry department in the Central Committee of the Korean Workers' Party, the message says..

As noted by the agency, the North Korean leader "got acquainted with the technical characteristics and structural and operational features of the hydrogen bomb". According to the agency, its "explosive power varies from tens to hundreds of kilotons". This type of weaponry "has a great destructive power" and can be "activated even at high altitudes to carry out a super-powerful attack using electromagnetic pulses in accordance with the strategic objectives" of Pyongyang, specified in the message of KTAC.

All components of the bomb were produced in the DPRK, and assembly was also carried out there.

In January 2016, Pyongyang officially announced the allegedly successful first test of a hydrogen bomb. However, the presence of thermonuclear weapons in the DPRK raised doubts and international experts.

In connection with the probable nuclear tests of Pyongyang, Japan and South Korea convened national security councils for emergency meetings.

The hydrogen bomb is a particularly destructive nuclear weapon, its explosion is much stronger than the explosion of an ordinary atomic bomb.
