Definition is a virtue. Today, despite all the difficulties, we did it. With the entry into force of the Association Agreement with Ukraine, the European Union realizes its promise to our Ukrainian friends.

This was announced on Friday morning, September 1, by European Commission President Jean-Claude Juncker, addressing the European Commission on the occasion of the entry into force of the Agreement. He thanked all those who made this possible.

I congratulate those who stood on the Maidan and those who are working hard to reform the country for the better. This is a day of celebration for our European continent, "Juncker said, adding that the Association Agreement, including a deep and comprehensive free trade area, is the main instrument of rapprochement between Ukraine and the EU.

At the same time, he assured that the European Union steadfastly supports the independence, sovereignty and territorial integrity of Ukraine, as well as the constant ambitious efforts of the Ukrainian authorities to reform the institutions and economy of the country that will open up the full potential of the Association Agreement and provide benefits for the Ukrainian people in full.
