"Russia provokes chaos in cyberspace and should get what it deserves if it continues to undermine democratic institutions in the West, the former head of the British intelligence service, the Government Communication Center (GCHQ), said on Monday," Reuters reports..

Asked whether the Russian authorities are threatening the democratic process, Robert Hannigan replied: "Yes. In cyberspace there is too much chaos, generated by the actions of the Russian state ".

In the first interview since leaving GCHQ, Hannigan called positive that French President Emmanuel Macron and German Chancellor Angela Merkel publicly "recently exposed it".

"Ultimately, people have to confront the activities of the Russian state and demonstrate that this is unacceptable," he said.. - This should not be a response in cyberspace, although, perhaps, they will be needed at some point in the future. It can be sanctions and other measures, just to denote some red lines and say that such behavior is unacceptable ".
