More than 190 Democrat lawmakers on Wednesday filed a lawsuit against the federal court against President Donald Trump, accusing him of violating the US Constitution by receiving money from foreign governments through his business without the approval of the Congress.

The suit states that Trump did not apply to Congress for approving any payments that his hundreds of companies received from foreign governments after assuming office in January, despite the relevant requirement of the Constitution.

The White House has not yet responded to requests for comment, but stated that Trump's business interests do not violate the Constitution.

Trump Organization stated that it would transfer profits received from customers representing foreign governments to the US Treasury, but would not ask such clients to identify themselves.

Claimants on this claim were made by at least 30 senators and 166 members of the House of Representatives.

The constitutional provision on "foreign remuneration" prohibits US officials from accepting payments or other gifts from foreign authorities without the approval of the Congress.
