US President Donald Trump questioned the prospects of introducing electromagnetic catapults on the new aircraft carriers of the Gerald Ford class.

In an interview, Time Trump said that the electromagnetic catapult works poorly, and it is better for seafarers to return with the old technologies of a steam catapult:.

"This sounds bad for me - digital. What is digital? It's very difficult, you need to be Albert Einstein to understand this. And they want to buy more aircraft carriers. I asked which system are you going to use? : "Sir, we want digital". And I told them that there was no. Use this damn steam, "digital" systems cost hundreds of millions of dollars, and it's bad, "said Trump.

Electromagnetic catapult is an installation for accelerating objects with the help of electromagnetic forces and is an alternative to existing aircraft launch systems from the deck of an aircraft carrier. It allows us to accelerate combat aircraft more smoothly and avoid too much load on the design of the aircraft.

In May 2015, the US Navy conducted a catapult test on board a new nuclear-powered aircraft carrier Gerald Ford. Sailors as an experiment launched heavy carts - the so-called "dead load", the weight of the heaviest of which was 36.3 tons.

The aircraft launching device managed to disperse the heavy truck to a speed of 257 kilometers per hour; On the deck of the aircraft carrier "dead cargo" drove a little more than 91 meters.
