Both countries have challenged the quotas of the European Union for the reception of refugees.
The European Commission approved them in 2015 in an attempt to cope with the migration crisis. According to the plan, among all EU countries it was necessary to distribute about 120 thousand migrants.
However, neither Hungary nor Slovakia took the necessary number. Instead, they sent appeals to the court. They were signed by Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orban and Slovakian - Robert Fico.
Moreover, both countries accused the European Union of negligence by accepting quotas, as this changed the laws on granting asylum in the bloc.
It is worth noting that last month the European Union threatened the trial of Poland and Hungary, if they do not accept the necessary number of migrants according to quotas.
In 2014-2016 in the EU arrived about a million 600 thousand illegal refugees. This made Brussels think about how to distribute the load.
At present, according to the quotas, slightly more than 16 thousand 300 migrants were resettled. The deadline for reception of refugees expires in September.
It is expected that, following a suit by Hungary and Slovakia, the European Court will rule in about a month.
