The Committee of Ministers of the Council of Europe (CMCE) at a meeting in Strasbourg on Wednesday, May 3, adopted a decision on the situation in the Crimea, and also put forward a number of demands on Russia that unlawfully annexed the peninsula.

As reported on his page in Twitter by Foreign Minister Pavel Klimkin, the CMCE requires the Russian Federation to lift the ban on the Mejlis and allow its work to resume in the occupied Crimea. Another requirement is the abolition of the ban on the entry of the leaders of the Mejlis.

As reported by the European Pravda with reference to its own sources, the CMCE adopted a comprehensive decision, the full text of which will be made public later.

It is expected that the Commissioner for Human Rights will assess the situation in the Crimea The Council of Europe also joined the UN General Assembly resolution on the Crimea, which was adopted in December last year, and requires its full implementation.

Earlier, representatives of 45 countries and political groups of the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe (PACE) signed a declaration demanding that Russia restore the rights of the Mejlis of the Crimean Tatars in the occupied Crimea and ensure the rights of the Ukrainian population.
