The creation of a single European registry, which will record data on all persons who enter and leave the EU, will be the next important step in the process of strengthening security in the Schengen zone. Such a statement was made by the Chancellor of Germany Angela Merkel, speaking at the congress on internal security organized by the faction of the CDU / CSU in the Bundestag,.

"We happily came to that, thanks in part to the German and French efforts, that we achieved what is really important, for example, the uniform border police. But we are still not there to achieve what we need, and this is currently being done - it is a single register of all those who enter and leave (from the EU) .... This will be the next big and important step, "Merkel said..

"We created a space of freedom, the so-called Schengen space, in which we can move freely, in which there is free exchange of goods, the exchange of services, we are striving for a digital internal market, everything is correct - but the space of freedom and security has borders. And if these borders no longer correspond to national borders, then we must be able to protect external borders, "the Chancellor added..

According to Merkel, "the experience we received in 2015 indicates that the protection of external borders absolutely does not meet these requirements".
