"The same Russian hackers that hacked the mail servers of the National Committee of the Democratic Party of the United States in 2016 now focus on European elections, according to a new report that will be published on Tuesday by the company in the field of cyber security, Trend Micro," Shira Frenkel, a BuzzFeed correspondent.

The author clarifies that this is a grouping known as Fancy Bear, Pawn Storm and APT 28, which mainly uses the phishing method, deceiving the victims into "letting" hackers into their computer systems.

"Now, it seems, they are using the same strategy to attack the upcoming elections in Germany," reads the article.

As you can see in one screenshot that Trend Micro provided to BuzzFeed News, the hackers allegedly attacked the Konrad Adenauer Foundation, a German research center linked to the CDU of German Chancellor Angela Merkel.

"The Trend Micro report also reports that Russian hackers in recent weeks have been trying to access the email account of the electoral headquarters of French presidential candidate Emanuel Macron with phishing emails. Macron, a centrist who stands for firm pro-European positions in the fight against Moscow's subversive actions, accused Russia of interfering in elections in France in the past. Macron in the second round on May 7 to face the leader of the "National Front" Marin Le Pen. It is believed that Le Pen is a favorite of Moscow because of its anti-European and anti-NATO positions, "reads the article.
