March 23 portal airforcetimes. Com reported that the command of the US Air Force is considering the possibility of writing off 236 F-15 fighters.

According to Lieutenant-General Scott Rice, the command considers several options for reducing costs. One of the most likely is the cancellation of 236 F-15 fighters of modifications C and D with their subsequent replacement by F-16 aircraft of the latest modifications.

According to the US military, the unification of fighters will significantly reduce the cost of maintaining various types of military equipment.

At the same time, representatives of the US Air Force command point out that the newest modifications of the single-engine F-16 in terms of combat capabilities are not inferior to the heavier two-engine F-15.

According to preliminary estimates, the write-off of F-15 modifications of C and D may occur already in fiscal year 2020. At the same time, more modern modifications of this fighter (F-15E and others) will remain on alert before the development of the flying resource. Earlier, the US Department of Defense planned to modernize all the available "Orlov" and planned to spend on these purposes about $ 12 billion.
