This is the house from whose balcony, according to some information, the chairman of the Central Rada, Mikhail Hrushevsky, in 1918, read out to the people gathered at Sofia's Square the text of the IV Central Rada Universal, to which the Ukrainian People's Republic proclaimed its independence. Fortunately, no one was hurt.

According to the press service of the State Emergency Service, information about the fire came about two o'clock in the afternoon. Already in place, rescuers established that the fire originated on the first floor, reached an area of ??50 square meters and has already begun to spread to the second floor. Rescuers managed to completely eliminate the fire within an hour.

Recall that the house in Sofia built in the XIX century, in 1994, listed in the list of monuments of architecture and located in the buffer zone of Sofia, listed in the list of UNESCO World Heritage Sites, was released from tenants in 2005 and has not been used since. In the same year, the City Council was presented with a project for the reconstruction of the house, which provided for the construction of a new six-story building in its place with the preservation of a small corner section on which the historic balcony is located.

In March 2017, the mayor of Kiev, Vitali Klitschko, said that "while he is the mayor," the building does not threaten anything and there will not be new construction in its place.

As reported URA-Inform, today Klitschko said that all the historic houses in Kiev, which are not currently supported in due course by their owners, are likely to be returned to the communal property. Now Kyivrada considers and further intends to make a political decision to return such houses to the community's ownership. Such a political decision can take in the near future, - explained the capital's mayor.
