In Kiev, there is an increase in the incidence of meningococcal infection. This was stated by the Director of the Department of Health KSCA Valentina Ginzburg, the press service of the mayor's office.

According to her, this year there are 27 cases registered against last year's 10. Among children under 17 years - 18 cases against 10 in 2016.

The disease is transmitted by airborne droplets and has various forms: from such that it does not endanger life - to dangerous meningococcemia. The most vulnerable to the disease are children (about 80% of cases) and people with weakened immunity.

"The insidiousness of the disease lies in the fact that the first symptoms are similar to the symptoms of ARVI, and the lethality can occur within 24 hours after their appearance," Ginzburg said..

Among the main signs that may indicate the presence of meningococcal infection - fever, drowsiness, lethargy. Then there is a rash that has signs of hemorrhage.

In Lviv, two children were hospitalized with meningitis. Earlier it was reported that a two-year-old child died of meningitis in Kiev.
