The Ministry of Culture said that dismantling the USSR coat of arms on the Motherland monument in Kiev is a violation of the laws on the protection of cultural heritage and on copyright and related rights, reports UNN. Earlier in the Institute of National Memory stated that within the framework of decommunization the coat of arms of the USSR on the shield Motherland is being dismantled.
"In order to prevent the violation of the current legislation, the issue of dismantling, as well as the replacement of Soviet symbols on the shield of the Monument should be worked from the point of view of the legislation of Ukraine on the protection of cultural heritage and on copyright and related rights," the ministry said.. The department noted that the law prohibiting the use and propaganda of communist symbols does not apply to cases of its use in works of art created before the entry into force of this law.
