During the Ukrainian-American meeting in the United States on March 21, preparations for future trilateral negotiations with the Russian Federation, sanctions against Moscow and work on bilateral agreements between Kiev and Washington will be discussed. President Volodymyr Zelensky said this during a conversation with journalists, Ukrinform reported on Friday, March 20.
" All questions will be raised. Preparations for a future trilateral meeting. We want clear dates, at least approximately. We all understand that the situation in the Middle East, the war, influences the postponement of this date. This is not the first time a trilateral meeting has been postponed. I would like more specifics on this matter,” he said..
Zelensky is convinced that the dialogue with the American side should continue in a close format, in particular on sanctions against Russia.
“The recent sanctions that the American side lifted from Russian energy are all risks for us, all this is an increase in money for Russia and an increase in their capabilities later at the front. It's dangerous. I believe that this meeting is also important from this point of view,” he noted..
At the same time, according to the president, work will continue on bilateral documents for the future end of the war, for the upcoming guarantees of security and restoration of Ukraine.
Zelensky noted that the political part of the negotiating group will conduct negotiations in the United States, despite the reluctance of the Russians to continue the peaceful dialogue.
" The three sides, in principle, agreed on how to monitor the ceasefire when (on this - ed.. ) there will be political will. There is no political will yet. That is why a political subgroup is on the way, they will talk with the American side, they will talk in America,” Zelensky said.
He added that Ukraine understands that Russians do not want to come to the United States, and the American side, while there is a war in the Middle East, considers its presence in America a priority.
“That’s why our group is going to the United States,” the president explained.
He identified the main task of the Ukrainian negotiating group in the United States to establish clear parameters for the continuation of trilateral meetings.
" Third is the PURL program, through which we buy missiles for Patriot. These capabilities (necessary - ed.. ) discuss with the American side, as well as the continuation of this program. And fourth, of course, we will talk with them about our relationships and the Drone Deal,” the head of state concluded.
The day before, President Vladimir Zelensky announced that the Ukrainian delegation was already heading to the United States. Negotiations are due to take place on March 21.
As you know, on February 17-18, the third round of trilateral negotiations between Ukraine and the United States took place in Geneva. After this, the next meeting was postponed several times due to the war in the Middle East, and Zelensky called the current situation with the negotiations “Santa Barbara”.
At the same time, the media reported that Russia could withdraw from the negotiations altogether.
