History of the holiday.

Section is celebrated on the 40th day after the birthday of Jesus Christ. According to biblical legend, on this day the Virgin Mary and Joseph brought the newborn Savior to the temple to thank the Lord.

Simeon the God -receiver, who became a symbol of the people, was already waiting for them in the temple. He lived for almost 300 years, waiting for a meeting with Jesus. As soon as Simeon took the baby in his arms, he died immediately. Before his death, the elder Simeon announced that the baby, which he was finally destined to see, would come out " Therefore, this holiday is called a meeting - on this day Jesus met with Simeon.
