In the Pechersky district of Kyiv, near the Alexander Hospital, a monument to Ivan Pavlov, a Russian physiologist, was dismantled in the framework of the decolonization of urban space. Dismantling was carried out by employees of KP "

The decision is based on the resolution of the Kyiv City Council of 2023, supplemented in 2024, to eliminate objects related to the colonial past from the public space.

“Despite his contribution to science, his figure is associated with imperial narrative. Historically, the school of Ivan Pavlov conducted cruel experiments not only on animals, but also in public. In particular, street children from 6 to 15 years old were used for these experiments, ”the department noted.

Subsequently, the dismantled object will be stored on a special site for ownerless property.

Since 2022, 59 objects have been dismantled in Kyiv, including the monument to Shchorsu. As of January 2025, the total number of dismantled objects in the city is 118.
