The church is successfully mastering the latest technologies: in Chernigov, priests are practicing child baptism online. But this is not just a tribute to modernity, but rather a sacrament in accordance with the circumstances.

War conditions require non-standard solutions. That is why the priests of Chernigov offer parents the opportunity to baptize their children online, while on a video call with parents and godparents.

This is reported by the online publication of Cheline.

Rector of the Cathedral of the Holy Great Martyr Catherine Father Roman Kinnik says this is due to the fact that one of the parents or godparents is at the front and is not able to come to their relatives.

“There are times when parents want to take a godfather, but the godfather is now at the front, fighting for Ukraine. There were moments when they simply turned on the phone, when the godfather got in touch, and here, on the spot, was the godfather’s wife, who was holding the phone, and he was also present at the baptism. He was present, he had the opportunity to say those words that godparents say for a child, which he cannot say for himself,” says the priest.

Father Roman says that a similar method of baptism of the child can be considered full -fledged, because the necessary religious canons of the sacrament are observed.

“He was directly spiritually joined and can be considered a truly godfather, because when he arrives, he will be able to take the child in his arms and will be able to share his love and warmth with the child who was baptized,” the Father Roman (Kinnik) is the rector of the holy cathedral of the holy Cathedral.

Recall that the optimal date or age for the baptism of the child, then the church does not establish such.

According to the Bible, by undergoing a sacrament at a conscious age, a person can fully understand its meaning and make an informed choice. Jesus Christ himself was baptized at the age of 30, so the church will not refuse baptism to either a child or an adult.

The minimum age of a child for baptism is 40 days. An exception can be made only if the child is very sick. After the baby is 40 days old, choose any age and day for baptism, the main thing is to coordinate this with the priest.
