Megafon, one of the largest mobile and Internet operators in Russia, has experienced a powerful cyberataka, behind the cybersical specialists of the Main Intelligence Directorate (GUR) of the Ministry of Defense of Ukraine, Ukrinform said with reference to Saturday, January 25.

According to sources in Ukrainian intelligence, the successful “carpet attack” violated the work of not only Megaphone, but also Yota, Netbynet communications and Internet operators, and deprived of the temporary access of Russians to Internet resources and services such as Steam, Twitch and Discord.

The day before, the media reported that a third failure occurred in Runet three weeks after Roskomnadzor’s exercises. The preliminary failure was recorded on January 14. It also affected mobile operators, Telegram, Tiktok, Google, Steam and Twitch. Roskomnadzor explained the incident as a “short-term communication disruption”. The media, with reference to sources, reported that the failure caused technical means of counteracting threats to the Roskomnadzor TSPU and the main radio frequency center, which are used to block resources.
